SEASONAL PATROL OFFICER OPENING

    

  

  Beginning March 29, 2010 we will be accepting applications for Part-Time Summer employment as a Seasonal Police Officer.

 

Job Description:  As a seasonal police officer, you will enforce the laws of the state and ordinances of the town, patrol areas during specific periods on foot and bicycle, check doors and windows and examine the premises of unoccupied buildings or residences for signs of entry investigate suspicious conditions and complaints, direct traffic, make arrests, perform plainclothes assignments to detect illicit alcohol, drug, or criminal activity, prosecute cases before the Justice of the Peace Courts, Court of Common Pleas, and Grand Jury for New Castle County, and perform other duties as directed by the Chief of Police or your immediate supervisor.

The Following criteria is requested:

Requirements:  You must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, have a valid driver's license, and be free of any criminal arrest or felony traffic arrests for the last five (5) years.  If given a conditional job offer, you must present a note from your family physical stating that you area in good physical condition and provide a copy of your High School Diploma or equivalent.  You must pass a written entry-level police officer examination (minimum passing score: 70), pass a broad spectrum drug screening test and satisfactorily complete a psychological evaluation.  Both the drug and psychological testing will be paid for by the Elsmere Bureau of Police.

Training:  Your will be trained in accordance with Delaware State Law. The training period is a minimum forty (40) hours and  will cover state laws, police discipline and courtesy, manual traffic control, criminal law, laws of arrest, search and seizure, report writing, emergency care, courtroom procedures and demeanor, fingerprinting and photography, drug investigation, and weaponless defense.

Each seasonal officer hired will be expected to work from May 17, 2010 through Sept. 7, 2010. You will work sixty-four (64) hours every two weeks on a rotating shift schedule.

Salary:  The rate of pay will be at least $12.00 per hour for a first year seasonal police officer. 

Benefits:  The town does not provide any benefits for seasonal employees; sick leave, or personal / vacation leave.  All leave shall be leave-without-pay.  However, if you are injured in the line-of-duty, you will be covered under Workers Compensation.

Criminal Justice majors are encouraged to apply.

Testing will be held on April 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.
(Qualified Applicants will be notified by phone on April 20, 2010 where to go for testing.)

Applicants must pick up an application at the Elsmere Police Department in person, after March 29th,
between 8am and 4pm, Monday thru Friday.

Applications MUST be returned by April 16, 2010.
 NO applications will be accepted after 4pm on April 16, 2010

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!! NO CELL PHONES WHEN OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE OR BICYCLE IN THE TOWN OF ELSMERE

  Ordinance Number 511 of the Town of Elsmere, Prohibiting the use of Mobile/Cellular Phones by the Operator of  a Motor Vehicle or Bicycle is now in full effect!!

Beginning January 1st, 2010 this violation will get you a fine of $50.00 + Costs.

This is a primary offense in the Town of Elsmere,  Elsmere Officer's can and WILL stop you for use of a Mobile/Cellular Phone while operating a Motor Vehicle within town limits.

 

     ALARM'S In the Town of Elsmere ------------ IMPORTANT NOTICE!!
 

   If you have an alarm in your home or business you must register that alarm with the Elsmere Bureau of Police. If a officer is dispatched to your home or business for a false alarm and it is not registered you WILL be assessed a users fee of $50.00.

   Alarm Registrations must be renewed annually and are effective Jan. 1st through Dec. 31st. If you have an alarm in your home or business you must register your alarm.

   In order to better serve the residents of the Town of Elsmere the Elsmere Police Department has implemented the use of Request Tracker . This is the system used by the Town of Elsmere that allows you to make complaints, make special requests or send anonymous tips to the police department or any other Town Department.

    If you have any information on Drug Activity or Crime Tips in the Town of Elsmere contact the Elsmere Police Department at (302) 998-1173 all information is confidential.

Please do not call the number above for criminal reports and crimes in progress, call 911. Officers are patrolling the streets and are not in the office to answer your calls.

Officers are dispatched through RECOM. Call 911 and give the call takers the information. Officers will be dispatched on a priority basis.

If you have an EMERGENCY please immediately call 911.
